This week, the multinational personal care and beauty retailer added the full Dr. Zenovia Skincare product portfolio to its ecommerce site.

Hormonal beauty has been emerging as a category for a few years now. And more recently brands formulating skin care for women in menopause as well as ingredient makers developing inputs for such products have been making headlines.

For instance, Avon is making headway on consumer education and prelaunch planning for its Adapt Sync collection of menopause skin care products. And just last month, as Cosmetics Design reported, the specialty chemical company Sederma launched its Feminage ingredient to address the loss of skin elasticity and firmness experienced by women in menopause.

Sephora gets in on hormonal skin care with online launch of Dr. Zenovia Skincare

“Dr. Zenovia Skincare has created a new frontier in skincare by being the first dermatologist-developed brand on the market to address the visible signs of hormonal imbalances happening within the body,” proclaims Brenda Wu, CEO and President of Topix, in this week’s press release.

“We are thrilled,” she says, “to support Dr. Zenovia's groundbreaking research and to partner with Sephora to bring these effective innovations to their consumers.” Dr. Zenovia Skincare is made by private label beauty maker Topix Pharmaceuticals Inc. and part of that company’s portfolio of brands.

Dr. Zenovia Skincare isn’t for any one demographic of women. It’s simply meant to address hormonal skin concerns whenever they occur. The brand’s 2 collections are both now available on Sephora.com and comprise a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment, a repairing moisturizer, a soothing moisturizer, a brightening moisturizer, a retinol night cream, a brightening toner, an ‘inflam-aging’ night treatment, two different cleansers, a serum, peel pads, and an eye cream.

Hormonal skin care takes as many as 6 life stages into consideration

I knew developing this line was extremely relevant and timely, especially as studies revealed 80% of women suffer from issues due to hormonal imbalance,” says Dr. Zenovia, who launched the brand just this year.

“Every product,” she says in this week’s press release, “is formulated with research-proven actives and mindful chemistry that is highly effective, without the need for systemic or topical medications.”

Dr. Zenovia is the chief resident at the University of Southern California’s Department of Dermatology in Los Angeles. And is an active researcher in the field of hormonal dermatology, according to the brand site.

Hormonal dermatology looks at the connection between hormonal fluctuations and skin health. As a blog post on drzenovia.com explains, a woman can experience as many as 6 hormonal stages over the course of her life: puberty, pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause—each stage affecting skin health differently.

And this is the premise upon which Dr. Zenovia developed her eponymous product line.
