4. DIY Beauty
With the absence of beauty salons and spas during lockdowns, more consumers have turned to do-it-yourself beauty products.
Henry believes this trend will continue to persist post-pandemic because of a stronger underlying trend.
“There’s a saying that nature hates a void and the DIY trend which has been growing in the past few years is really based on two things: the lack of inclusivity in the market and the lack of personalisation in the market, which are two parallel but different things.”
This is boosting the popularity of product concepts like Singapore-based Skin Inc’s My Daily Dose Custom Blended Serum, which allows you to build a bespoke serum with three encapsulated boosters.
“This is why droppers have expanded drastically. A lot of serums have very low viscosity formulas and droppers are good for that. Droppers also offer a sense of control for the consumer which helps them make their own formulas,” said Henry.
