2. Clean and sustainable formulas

With formulas and ingredients are being scrutinised more than ever by consumers, the firm expects to see more simplified formulations with less preservatives

With less preservatives, formulas are more sensitive to oxidation, creating more demand for airless and airtight packaging that can preserve the potency of sensitive ingredients such as vitamin C and retinol.

At the same time, consumers are becoming more aware about hygiene and it is pushing manufacturers to think about ‘clean’​ applications.

“There’s a growing consumer base that would prefer for their hands to not be in contact with the formula. Airless does just that, it helps you get what you need out, so you don’t need to put your fingers into the jar,” ​said Henry.

This will also drive demand for contactless solutions like in-jar applicators and flow though application systems that directly apply onto skin so there is no contact with the surface of the hands.

We have already seen such products in the market such as Japanese beauty brand Surratt’s Beauty Surreal Skin Foundation Wand, which dispenses the product onto a built-in brush to apply and blend into the skin.
