Job loss expected as Coty closes plant

Cosmetics company Coty has announced that it will end production at its Rocky Point plant by next summer, eliminating about 330 jobs.

The company is also shutting down its distribution center at the plant by the end of December, eliminating another 100 jobs.

Coty decided to shut the Rocky Point operation in May 2009, as part of a consolidation effort and has tried since then to find a buyer, officials said.

No deal surfaced for the plant, so the company is moving forward with its plan to close the plant.

The plant, which Coty acquired three years ago from Del Laboratories, makes Sally Hansen and New York Color Nail Color and Treatments, Sally Hansen Bleaches and Depilatories and the packaging of La Cross Beauty Tools.
