TRI-K launches nano emulsion in a gel

New Jersey-based TRI-K Industries and its parent company Kemira has
launched a new nano-based gel aimed at enhancing the efficacy of a
wide range of skin care products.

Kemira NanoGel is said to be a unique nanoemulsion chassis system that has been designed around easy formulation, combined with the added benefits bought about by its nanotechnology properties. The company points to the fact that nanoemulsions are normally very complex substances, which means that the method of formulation can be protracted. However, the NanoGel has been created to help formulators develop a range of products using just one basic formulation and a simple mixer, the company claims. "NanoGel technology provides a simple process and system to create submicron emulsions from an easy- to-use, oil-in-water concentrate," said Salvador Pliego, director of business development at TRI-K. With respect to specific skin care products, the manufacturer says its research indicates the formula is particularly suited to minimizing transepidermal water loss, enhanced skin production and penetration of active ingredient. These characteristics suggest that it would be particularly useful for sun care products as well as moisturizing and anti-aging creams - particular areas where nanotechnology is already being incorporated into a host of products currently on the market. Likewise it is also highlighted that it helps to give skin care formulations a good skin feel, an increasingly important characteristic for formulators. Kemira Oyj announced back in April that it had increased its footprint in the global personal care sector with the acquisition of privately-owned TRI-K Industries and its subsidiary Maybrook. At the time Kemira said the main aim of the acquisition was to expand its position as one of the world's leading suppliers of titanium dioxide products for the cosmetics industry. Kemira's specialty division is particularly noted for its UV-Titan products, a nanotechnology-based range that is now widely used in sunscreens for a variety of personal care products, as well as packaging products to help extend shelf life of perishable goods.
