Free online training for cosmetics formulation launched
The training website is designed for industry professionals with a range of formulation experience, the partnership states.
It will be of interest to “new formulators, experienced formulators desiring a refresher, and marketing or sales professionals working in the industry who would like some basic technical training in the area of cosmetics science,” the two companies suggest.
The new platform
The platform has launched hosting six introductory modules, whose topics include ‘Introduction to Formulation Basics’, ‘Producing Emulsions’ and ‘Shampoo Formulation & Other Surfactant Systems’.
“The presentations were intended to provide a basic understanding of the chemistry and functionality of the ingredients used in topical personal care formulations,” notes Irwin Palefsky, who is president of Cosmetech Laboratories, and presents the modules.
“The more we know about this, the more effective we can be in developing successful, safe, and functional skin care products,” he says.
More modules will be added to this starting selection over the next few months the companies say, and will be hosted by a range of fellow industry experts.
Partnership
The site is a new initiative put together by DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products, which is a collaboration between DuPont, a global science company, and Tate & Lyle, a renewable food and industrial ingredients company.
The companies describe DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products as a ‘50-50 joint venture’, and the partnership was formed in 2004, with the mission of providing “improved ingredients with higher performance from a petroleum-free, sustainable and renewable source”.
“We are excited to sponsor this free educational tool for the cosmetics and personal care industry,” commented Rose Durham, marketing manager for DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products. “This provides another avenue to reach out to the cosmetic science community.”
The Cosmetics Science Center has just been launched at the New York Society of Cosmetics Chemists Supplier’s Day show. and is open for registration here.
