Cognis focuses on green solutions with new launches

Cognis Care Chemicals has launched a series of green-inspired ingredients at this week's in-cosmetics show, including emulsifiers and surfactants.

The company says that one of the primary aims in the development of the new ingredients has been to meet increasingly strict guidelines and requirements on the environment.

In line with this objective, the company has developed Cutina HGV, a consistency was that is said to be compatible with most raw materials, while also meeting a range of ‘green’ criteria.

Impacting stability and viscocity

It is said to have a crystallization behaviour that has a positive impact on both the stability and viscocity of the final emulsion, helping towards formulating liquid products with the correct consistency and texture.

Likewise, the newly developed Euperlan Green also boasts eco-friendly qualities for formulators sourcing pearlizing wax dispersions.

This formula is vegetable-based and free from ethylene oxide and amine feedstock, making it appropriate for hair and body cleansing products with natural and sustainable claims.

Saving on production costs

Additionally, the company says that it is comes in an easy-to-formulate liquid form, and is cold-processable, which in turn saves in production time and energy costs for the finished product.

Cognis also showcased the Eumulgin Prisma, an emulsifier that is claimed to be high-performance but cost-efficient, yet derived from natural sources.

The formula is said to be effective even in very low doses and can be used in a cross section of formulas, including sun care products thanks to its good electrolyte and pigment compatibility.

Cognis hones in on green credentials

Cognis also featured a variety of its existing formulations on the stand drawing particular attention to their environmentally friendly and green credentials.

One of these is Plantasil Micro, a hair care additive billed as providing eco-friendly shampoos with significant conditioning properties.

Highly compatible with a wide range of surfactants, it is marketed as a means of developing vegetable-based shampoo formulations while combining the added functionality of the conditioning properties.
