The Baycusan line is a range of four solvent-free aqueous polyurethane dispersions, which serve as film formers, together with a polyurethane powder which provides a sensory aid.
Polyurethane dispersions are being increasingly incorporated into complex personal care products such as hair fixatives and sun tan lotions because they offer several advantages over commonly used dispersions such as acrylics and PVP/VA copolymers.
Such advantages include water compatibility, water resistance and excellent film forming capabilities – the latter being vital for skin protective products such as sunscreens and moisturizers.
Aiming for US-wide distribution
The line has been newly launched and the company is starting distribution of the product throughout the United States, boosted by this latest distribution agreement.
The company says that the range of formulations can be used for a spectrum of cosmetic and personal care applications, including hair care, skin care and color cosmetic products.
“There seems to be a constant in the marketplace,” said Christina Fiduccia, E.T. Horn president. “And that is consumers still take care of themselves despite tough economic conditions."
Meeting sustained consumer demand
“Because we know that consumer commerce continues to be sustained in the world of cosmetics, we are representing these innovative new products throughout the Western part of the country,” she said.
Bayer MaterialScience has worked with E.T. Horn to distribute its products in the Western states for over 20 years, and it was on the basis of its experience in the personal care segment that it was chosen as a distribution partner.
“Since polyurethane dispersions have been used in this market area to a somewhat limited extent, we believe E.T. Horn will play an integral part in changing that,” said Jennifer Pasinski, distributor manager at E.T. Horn.
