Preparations are well underway for Luxe Pack New York, an event that organizers expect to be stronger than ever despite the recession.

The luxury packaging trade show will take place on May 20-21 and will be held at the Metropolitan Pavilion and Altman Building on West 18th Street.

Larger venue

Over 100 exhibitors are expected at the show, which expanded from the Metropolitan Pavilion into the Altman Building last year creating a combined space of 40,000 square-feet.

Commenting on this year’s event, Nathalie Grosdidier, executive director, Luxe Pack New York said: “Luxe Pack New York continues to get stronger every year and we expect the same in 2009.

“Despite the economy, we have a strong list of exhibitors and are putting together a top-notch program of events.”

Highlight speakers

The events taking place alongside the exhibition include a number of seminars and conferences. Some of the presentations highlighted by the organizers include:

  • Sustainable materials expert Dr. Andrew H. Dent PhD, VP library & materials research, Material ConneXion, returns to Luxe Pack with an examination of the latest sustainable materials for the luxury packaging industry.
  • Beauty Packaging Magazine presents a seminar on “creating brand loyalty” with speakers such John Delfausse from Estee Lauder, NPD beauty analyst Karen Grant and Scott Widrow of Chanel.
  • Designer Marc Rosen and a panel of experts will explore the creation of “iconic packaging” that captures brand identity. The panel will look into the design, marketing, package development and manufacture of iconic packages such as the black lipstick case or their #5 bottle.

The current economic situation will also be put under the microscope at the event. Nicholas Thorne, director, Innovation & Development, Alcan Packaging Beauty, will discuss how innovation can be a means to survive the crisis and what constitutes genuine innovation.
