Yahoo has launched a website aimed at women featuring articles on
everything from beauty to parenting in a bid to attract advertising
from leading consumer goods manufacturers.

The internet is becoming increasingly popular as a retail destination and point of reference for beauty consumers making the development of a strong online presence vital for manufacturers. Yahoo will be looking to attract these companies with its new website called Shine, designed to draw in women aged between 25 and 54. Content from leading magazines In partnership with leading publishing houses including Conde Nast and Hearst Corporation, the site will feature articles from top magazines such as Lucky, Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire. These articles will be published alongside selected blogs and stories written by the in-house editorial team covering topics such as beauty, food, work and relationships. Yahoo said the website would provide advertisers with a highly attractive destination from which to appeal to women in the sought after 25-54 demographic. The company said Shine will be especially attractive to advertisers in the consumer packaged goods sector. Yahoo is one of the leading search engines and will be looking to attract a high level of traffic with its new website and thereby persuade advertisers to part with their dollars. Effectiveness of internet advertising The internet is a highly effective tool for advertisers targeting the female segment of the market, according to a recent Forrester report. The study concluded that 46 percent of female consumers are more likely to purchase products advertised online than if they had they seen the same advertisement in a print publication. The differing reactions were attributed to the promotional tools found on internet sites, such as free product samples and product coupons.
