We interviewed Allison Garlet, Marketing Manager - Bioactives at BASF for her take on the recent launch of their Epispot ingredient, the R&D process behind the ingredient formulation, and how the company is working to fit into current market trends.

Among the buzz at NYSCC's Suppliers' Day conference earlier this month was BASF's Epispot ingredient, which is formulated to provide "clinically proven reduction of skin shine and excess skin greasiness and improvement of the appearance of facial pores," according to the BASF website. Epispot's emergence onto the market is the culmination of rigorous research and development efforts aimed at addressing contemporary skin care needs.

Garlet revealed that the journey began with a meticulous analysis of consumer insights and scientific advancements. She emphasized that understanding the evolving needs of consumers is fundamental to our innovation process, and this customer-centric approach guided BASF's R&D team in conceptualizing Epispot and formulating its unique composition.

Central to the Epispot formulation process was BASF's commitment to harnessing cutting-edge technologies and leveraging natural ingredient sources. Garlet highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the endeavor, which involved collaboration among chemists, biologists, and skin care experts. This holistic approach enabled BASF to develop Epispot as a potent yet gentle ingredient that caters to diverse skin types and concerns.

However, innovation does not end with formulation; it extends to market adaptation and relevance. Garlet further explained BASF's proactive stance in aligning Epispot with prevailing market trends, noting that the company's strategic response utilized a multifaceted approach encompassing sustainability, efficacy, and customization.

Sustainability lies at the core of BASF's ethos, and Epispot is representative of this commitment through its eco-friendly sourcing and production practices. Garlet emphasized the importance of transparency and traceability, reassuring consumers of Epispot's ethical pedigree. Furthermore, BASF's investment in research enables continuous enhancement of Epispot's efficacy, ensuring it remains at the forefront of skin care innovation.

Customization is another pivotal aspect of BASF's market strategy. Garlet underscored the company's efforts to offer versatile formulations, empowering brands to tailor products according to specific consumer needs. By providing customizable solutions, BASF has aimed to forge deeper connections with formulators and consumers.

Through our conversation with Allison Garlet, we gained valuable insights into the intricate journey behind Epispot and BASF's overarching vision for the skin care industry.
