As sustainability becomes more an more an imperative in the cosmetics and personal care industry, this is being highlighted by the program for the forthcoming New York edition of the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit.

Held in New York City 8 – 10 May at the Park Central Hotel, event organizer Ecovia Intelligence has focused on putting together a comprehensive program that underscores this theme throughout.

The two-day presentation program features two sessions each day, with day one, Thursday May 9th, focused on Sustainability Developments in the morning and Green Materials in the afternoon, while on Friday 10th of May, the morning session is focused on new technologies and the afternoon is focused on market best-practices.

Key note speaker session

The opening key note presentation will be given by Colin Beavan, who has been dubbed the ‘no impact man’ after he and his family successfully led a zero environmental impact lifestyle for one year in New York, thanks to a diet of locally grown food, non-carbon-based transport and producing no household waste.

In his presentation, Beavan will draw from his experience to emphasize how current systems of consumption are wired against sustainability because the products and services we used emit carbon emissions, cause environmental degradation and create waste.

Multinational cosmetic and personal care companies such as L’Oréal and Unilever have been among the leading corporate entities to drive more sustainable businesses with less environmental impact and in his presentation, Beavan will stress how these initiatives can be a first step to overhauling production and cultural systems associated with all consumer products.

 A more fulfilling lifestyle

Beavan’s presentation will also stress how consumers can become better connected to the every day cosmetic and personal care products they use, to understand how they impact both lifestyles and the environment.

He will also show how cosmetics and personal care can do more to get consumers involved in this process, ultimately serving to give them more inspired and fulfilling lives by giving them a sense of purpose.

Other key presentations will including Korean company Innerbottle sharing details about its green packaging innovation, while TerraCycle will give more details about its loop shopping platform.
