Biotech firm Mirexus partners with Cargill Beauty
The two companies recently showcased the PhytoSpherix technology at in-cosmetics Global Amsterdam, where it was being promoted as a pluri-functional phytoglycogen.
The ingredient is said to have a unique, natural bio-active that provides smooth skin after-feel, enhanced moisturizing, as well as anti-aging and skin tone benefits. It will be incorporated into the new Cargill Beauty System 1.0 Concept.
Building on biotech expertise
Mirexus is a privately held company and has developed by offering sustainable plant-derived glycogen solutions for a range of uses in personal care and cosmetic formulations.
“We needed to accelerate our growth and with Cargill Beauty as our partner in just one step we have moved into the big leagues,” said Boris Segalowitch, president of Mirexus.
"By selecting us as a partner, Cargill Beauty has endorsed PhytoSpherix as a powerful bio-active. As part of their rigorous evaluation process, Cargill invested in various lab tests and clinical & consumer trials to validate and enhance Mirexus’ own data.”
Fits with Cargill’s nature-derived portfolio
The partnership is equally beneficial to Cargill Beauty, because it helps to build out and expand its nature-derived portfolio and also adds further biotechnology expertise to enhance its bio-actives expertise.
“This is a category we plan to enhance in the future with a new line of bio-actives fitting with our current strategy. Mirexus has a similar vision for the future, and together we have a unique opportunity to expand the use of this special bio-active extracted from sweet corn using a patented, water-based, green manufacturing process in their dedicated new manufacturing plant in Canada”, said Tony Jaillot, general manager, Cargill Beauty.
“This is a great fit for Cargill Beauty, and we look forward to offering this unique bio-active around the globe.”s
