Advisory Board set up to boost innovation at IFF

International Flavors and Fragrances has set up a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) to boost innovation in research and development within the company as part of its global strategic review.

“IFF’s focus on innovation and R&D is a way for the company to drive growth, as these are key strengths and help to differentiate us in the market place as we anticipate and meet customers' needs”,​ Ahmet Baydar senior vice president R&D told CosmeticsDesign.com USA.

“We are strengthening our innovation platforms and reinforcing them with technological developments and external collaborations. All three are vital to accelerating IFF’s performance”,​ added Doug Tough, IFF CEO.

External perspectives

The addition of the SAB to the company’s R&D group will help develop innovative solutions in the flavors and fragrances business and better serve customers’ needs, added Tough.

The advisory board will concentrate on local and regional demands of customers and consumers and will support regional customer's needs through the heads of R&D located at Union Beach, New Jersey.

Leading the SAB and providing external perspectives on IFF’s R&D programs, Baydar will also be raising scientific issues and opportunities relevant to IFF’s business needs.

In addition he will help to identify appropriate research partners, provide background in specific areas of expertise, and assist in the identification and development of key R&D personnel.

“We anticipate that it will give us strong competitive advantage not only by tapping into the minds of the board members, but by leveraging their access to a global network of academics, high-level industry members, and their associates.”

The SAB members include Steven Ley FRS, Cheryl Perkins MS, Thomas D Sharkey Ph.D, Leslie Vosshall Ph.D and Brian Willis Ph.D.

“I am very pleased at the illustrious and complementary talents that comprise our SAB as they are among the most respected scientists in their areas of expertise in the world”,​ said Baydar.
