CTFA requests public comments on microbiology guidelines

The Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association (CTFA) is
requesting public comments by 2 August 2004 on three revised
microbiology guidelines that provide manufacturers with guidance
regarding the establishment and maintenance of a microbiological
quality programme within their companies.

The CTFA's Microbiology Guidelines are part of the association's Technical Guidelines series. Those under revision are: 'Microbiological Assessment of Product Quality after Use'; Microbiological Evaluation of the Plant Environment'; and 'Microbiology Laboratory Audit'.

The US-based association said the guidelines serve as a model to assist cosmetic manufacturers, suppliers and contract packagers in the establishment of microbiological quality programmes within their companies and describe the major areas in which microbiological aspects should be considered to assure acceptable finished product quality.

The CTFA said that each Guideline undergoes an extensive development and review process by CTFA technical committees and staff, as well as public review by CTFA member companies, non-member companies, federal government agencies, and scientific professional societies.

Electronic copies of the guidelines are available from the CTFA Public Affairs Department.
