One of the best ways to learn is to listen. Last Friday’s Editor’s Spotlight item here on Cosmetics Design was a compendium of 8 video interviews with indie beauty brand founders. Today we’re adding 8 more conversations with entrepreneurs and innovators worth listening to, leaders who are shaping the future of indie beauty.

Here, in their own words, brand leaders talk about the products and businesses and strategies that make the indie beauty movement tick.

Groundbreaking
Gallinée is microbiome skin care. The brand Marie Drago founded in 2015 has become known in the industry and with consumers as a leading-edge innovator in this new skin care movement. At IBE LA this year, Drago spoke with Cosmetics Design about what’s new and next for the brand. Chic
Indie Lee is clean beauty pioneer, a woman keen on wellness and transparency. At the 2017 edition of Cosmoprof North America, Cosmetics Design caught up with Lee to learn more about the business, the brand, and the person. Savvy
Industry insiders have been watching Courtney Adeleye’s hair care brand Mane Choice for years. Adeleye has impressive intuition about what the market and her consumers in particular don’t even know they need yet. 2 years ago at Cosmoprof North America, she sat down with Cosmetics Design to talk product, packaging, retail strategy and more. Inventive
Mirela Mitan knows how to formulate winning skin care. She’s an industry veteran turned entrepreneur who’s leading a brand with just one product, a truly universal facial treatment that’s designed to work well on any type of skin; any area of the face, neck, and decollate; at any time of day. Mitan’s beauty industry experience helped her formulate the MMXV Infinitude cream and her relationships with ingredient makers helped her source the very best ingredient tech available. Intimate
Lauren Steinberg believes that self-care and vaginal health can be one-in-the-same. Her startup Queen V speaks directly to millennial consumers and reaches a large audience with a retail presence at Walmart. Cosmetics Design sat down with Steinberg in Las Vegas, Nevada, last summer to get acquainted with the entrepreneur and her brand. Watch the full video interview here: Feminine wellness and beauty are all about feeling good, says brand founder Lauren Steinberg

Optimistic
Body positivity, self-care, and all things confidence are at work behind the scenes at Heather Fink’s color cosmetics brand The Sexiest Beauty. In conversation with Cosmetics Design, the marketing and branding expert describes how she (with a little help from her network of industry allies) is building a brand she believes in. Watch the full video interview here: The Sexiest Beauty: a people-positive cosmetics brand in the making

Infused
Teami began as a tea brand has grown to include a skin care line under the guidance of entrepreneur Adi Arenzinni. At this January’s IBE LA event, Arenzinni spoke with Cosmetics Design about her line of tea-infused skin care and the brand’s loyal lifestyle consumers. Watch the full video interview here: Why is this skin care bran selling skin care at Ulta?

Simple
Beauty-from-within has arrived. The category still has plenty of room to grow; but it’s very real, thanks to supplement makers and beauty brands adding pills and ingestibles with skin care and hair care benefits to their portfolios. Pip Summervile knew an opportunity when she saw one and melded the millennial penchant for tinctures and tonics with the beauty-from-within concept to launch a brand called Tonik that sells simple, single ingredients in capsules to beauty lovers.
