Resource Label Group makes second 2020 acquisition, buying up McDowell Packaging & Advertising

The Tennessee-based label manufacturer announced the deal late last month. Owning Texas-based McDowell Label (as the company is more commonly known) gives Resource Label Group a more robust presence in the Southwestern United States.

In February of this year, Resource Label Group (itself owned by First Atlantic Capital and TPG Growth) acquired Los Angeles, California – based Axiom Label & Packaging, a company that supplies labeling and packaging solutions to beauty and personal care makers as well as food, beverage, and nutraceutical companies.

“Axiom represents a valued addition to Resource Label with its outstanding group of dedicated employees and diverse client base. We are pleased to continue to support Resource Label’s expansion, which includes fifteen acquisitions since our initial investment in 2011,” ​said Emilio Pedroni, Managing Director at First Atlantic Capital, in his remarks to the press in February. McDowell Label deal is about more options for existing customers and more customers overall

Dave and Elaine McDowell as founded McDowell Label in 1981; and the company is now known for its work in graphic-rich heat shrink sleeves, labels, and flexible packaging as well as for innovations in HDUV printing tech and crisp dot tech. McDowell is the business behind labels for brands such as Poo-Pourri, Flawless by Gabrielle Union, and versaspa.  

“It is with great excitement and a swell of pride that our team at McDowell is joining the Resource Label Group family,” ​says John McDowell, President of McDowell Label, in a press release about the acquisition deal.

And the company’s Chairman, Dave McDowell, tells the press that he believes that, “This is the right time to partner with an organization like Resource Label Group.”

“We are excited to be part of a company that recognizes the importance of quality, excellence and customer service,” ​says Dave McDowell, noting that, “by joining the Resource Label family we will be better able to serve our customers and offer an extended reach of products and capabilities.”

Resource Label Group makes 16th acquisition under equity and asset firm management

For the Resource Label Group, this latest acquisition deal means a larger presence in the Southwestern United States and more control of the label supply business for industries spanning food, beverage, wine and spirits, beer, household and consumer products, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, chemical, industrial, automotive, cannabis, and health and beauty. And Resource Label Group supplies labeling solutions for all of these industries for both full-sized and promotional products as well.

Over the years, McDowell has secured over 500 national and international awards, including numerous World Label Awards; several TLMI Awards from the Tag & Label Manufacturers Institute; in 2017, 12 Printing Excellence Awards from the Flexographic Technical Association; recognition from Sleeve Label Awards Conference; and many others.

Now that award-winning team is under new management. “I feel privileged that the distinguished team at McDowell Label has joined the Resource Label family,” ​says Mike Apperson, CEO and President of the acquiring company.
