Resource Label Group was founded in 1991. In 2011, the Franklin, Tennessee – based company accepted an investment from First Atlantic Capital; and in May of this year TPG Growth came onboard as a significant investor too.
At the end of July, Resource announced its latest acquisition: label solution company Ingenious Packaging. “I am honored to welcome the talented team at Ingenious to our growing family,” Bob Simko, president and CEO of Resource Label, says in a press release announcing the transaction.
The Ingenious Packaging business is only adding momentum to Resource Label Group’s growth strategy. The company is already looking to expand the current Ingenious client base:
“Resource Label, with the backing of First Atlantic and TPG Growth, will provide the support to meet both the current and future growth needs of Ingenious’ customers throughout North America, with special focus on our foundation of Canadian customers,” explains Simko in the release.
And he points to a new equipment purchase as further proof of the company’s future growth. “As an initial sign of the commitment to Ingenious’ employees, customers and capital expansion strategy,” says Simko, “I am pleased to announce that we have placed an order today for a new 17” wide Mark Andy P7 flexographic press for the facility.”
With headquarters in Toronto, Ontario, the Ingenious Packaging business is, at its core, a label printing business. The company serves clients in a spectrum of markets: beverage, food, pharmaceuticals, household, petrochemicals, and personal care, according to the Ingenious site.
For personal care and beauty makers the company boasts label-printing techniques from Flexo to Litho, and from Silkscreen to Digital to Inkjet; and specializes in finishes including, stamping, raised varnishes, and security features.
Ingenious promises to help cosmetics and personal care brands “turn your vision into reality with printed personal care labels that create a first irresistible and ultimately iconic presence on the shelf,” according to their personal care labeling page.
Investors behind the acquisition believe that these capabilities will indeed make Resource a bigger and better labeling service provider. “We’re pleased with the Ingenious acquisition, the first after our investment in Resource Label,” Ransom Langford, a partner at TPG Growth, tells the press; “and we look forward to helping Ingenious support its customers and grow its business.”
Emilio Pedroni, managing director at First Atlantic Capital, concurs, “Ingenious has a distinguished customer base and great employees, and is a valued addition to Resource Label.”
