Mega Pumps offers swirl filling for its airless ranges via partners
Airless dispensers are becoming increasingly popular in the cosmetics and personal care sectors as they can help protect the product from external contamination as well as ensuring almost 100 hundred percent product restitution.
In addition, the airless mechanism allows for some new decorative techniques including swirl filling that can help the product stand out on the crowded retail shelf, according to Mega Pumps.
Due to the location of the pump at the top of the product and the piston at the base, the swirl pattern present in the formula when it is filled will remain until the entirety of the product has been dispensed.
According to regional sales manager for Mega Pumps Alex Silberstein, the swirl filling is an increasingly popular choice.
“Swirl filling is a star on the shelves. It has a distinctive and eye-catching look that is really chic,” Silberstein said.
Patterns can include both a layered swirl effect, as well as helices suspended in a translucent gel.
Keeps actives separate
Aside from its decorative value, Mega Pumps also says the swirl effect can help formulators keep actives separate until they are dispensed.
“Most of the time the active ingredients “react” themselves when they are mixed together. Since the actives are separated by a translucent gel, they stay “inactive” or unmixed in the dispenser. When it is dispensed the actives are mixed in the pump head and become mixed or active,” Mega Pumps director of sales Terence Sweeney, told CosmeticsDesign.com USA.
According to Sweeney, ingredients that could be kept separate could include UV filters in a foundation product, or two ingredients that when mixed offer a unique benefit to the internet.
