Montblanc to develop further women’s fragrances in partnership with Inter Parfums

The two companies had a standing deal to collaborate on scents through 2020 and have just signed off to extend their partnership for five more years.

Along with extending the partnership with Inter Parfums, luxury accessories brand Montblanc has set a clear objective to create both men’s and women’s fragrances. “We are very pleased that this new license agreement will reinforce our long-term visibility, by notably setting the stage for developing a product offering in the women's fragrance universe," Jean Madar, chairman and chief executive officer of Inter Parfums, tells the press.

Logo of luxury

The brand, historically aligned with upmarket pens, watches, leather items, etc., has already created two successful men’s fragrances with Inter Parfums: Legend and Emblem. “Montblanc fragrances have met with growing success since the signing of our first license agreement, first with the Montblanc Legend line and then the Montblanc Emblem line. The work accomplished upstream by the Maison has contributed considerably to this success, and has allowed us to build a lasting position in the universe of men's fragrances,” explains Madar.

Montblanc first launched the women’s scent Legend Pour Femme in spring of 2013. And it looks to be just the beginning of the brand’s foray into women’s fragrance.

Business dealings

Terms of the new agreement simply extend the existing arrangement between the two companies through the end of 2025 “without any material changes in operating conditions from the prior license,” according to the press statement.

The statement further explains that, InterparfumsSA will continue to hold the exclusive worldwide license to create, produce and distribute perfumes and ancillary products under the Montblanc brand.

Momentum

The fragrance maker has done quite well with Montblanc. Its annual sales for the brand amount to nearly $90m, according to the press statement, which also indicates that this is “a 400% increase in just 4 years.”

Jérôme Lambert, chief executive officer of Montblanc, tells the press, "We are very proud to announce the extension of our partnership with Interparfums. The remarkable successes achieved in the last few years, the result of our close collaboration, have naturally led us to renew our confidence in Interparfums for the next 10 years."

Relationships

This time next year, Inter Parfums is set to become the distribution partner for Coach brand fragrances too. The fragrance maker is planning “an integrated marketing and communications campaign” to coincide with the launch, reported Cosmetics Design when that deal was announced.

More and more, Inter Parfums is teaming up with top brands to create perfumes, or as the company explains it, “to capture the genetic code of each brand in the products it develops, manufactures and distributes.”

To date Inter Parfums has worked with Anna Sui, Banana Republic, Oscar de la Renta, Paul Smith, Repetto, and Van Cleef & Arpels, among others.
