Estée Lauder expands the roles of two key executives

In a move designed to continue the momentum of the company's global expansion, Estée Lauder says it is expanding the executive duties of Jane Lauder and Peter Litchenthal.

The company said that Jane Lauder and Peter Lichtenthal will each assume additional responsibilities as part of its restructuring announced on November 15.

The restructuring reflects a move to keep pace with continued global expansion since 2009, particularly in the Asia Pacific region and the appointments will become effective from the beginning of the New Year. 

Tapping into existing executive skills

“We are a dynamic organization, evolving as the skills of our company grow," says Fabrizio Freda, company CEO.

“The additional responsibilities we are announcing for our leaders celebrate their strengths and, at the same time, provide them growth opportunities that make our business exciting.” 

Lauder adds the Darphin brand  

Lauder, who is global president and general manager of the Origins and Ojon brands, will now add Darphin to her brand leadership responsibilities.

This evolution recognizes both her strategic and operational strengths, as well as Ms. Lauder’s proven track record in developing certain of the Company’s turnaround brands.

Lauder will continue to report to Lynne Greene, who takes on her new role as Group President of Clinique, Origins, Ojon, Aveda and Darphin at the beginning of next year. Greene will remain President of the Clinique brand.

Lichtenthal takes over Smashbox  

Recognizing his achievements as President of trend-setting professional  hair care brand Bumble and bumble, and his previous experience in senior marketing roles within the Estée Lauder brand and M.A.C Cosmetics, Peter Lichtenthal will now also oversee Smashbox.

Lichtenthal will drive integration, further linking the brand with the company’s global marketing and commercial capabilities and will now report to John Demsey, Group President of Estée Lauder. Mr. Demsey will add Bumble and bumble to his responsibilities on January 1, 2013.   

Peter Lichtenthal has over 20 years’ brand-building experience with The Estée Lauder Companies. His recent direction of Bumble and bumble has taken the brand to new horizons in fashion, innovation and specialty retailing. He will be an excellent addition to the Smashbox leadership team, advancing the strategic development of this growing brand,” said John Demsey.
