The strategic move strengthens Univar Solutions’ sun care offerings in one of the world’s largest markets for UV protection and aligns with the company’s broader efforts to deliver high-performance, sustainable ingredients.
According to the company’s press release, the agreement enhances Univar Solutions’ ability to offer local manufacturers access to advanced sunscreen technologies and technical support, as well as increased speed to market.
Brazil’s sun care market identified as strategic growth region
“Brazil serves as a strategic hub for Latin America,” James Peterson, global vice president of CARE, Ingredients + Specialties at Univar Solutions, told CosmeticsDesign. “This partnership enhances Ingredients + Specialties from Univar Solutions’ market offering for advanced UV protection solutions.”
The exclusive agreement grants Univar Solutions the rights to distribute Best Value Chem’s UV filters, including BVSUN, a broad-spectrum defense designed for facial and body care applications.
“We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Best Value Chem,” said Jorge Buckup, president of Latin America for Univar Solutions, in the press release. “As their exclusive distributor in Brazil, we look forward to introducing their innovative, high-performance ultraviolet (UV) filters to local manufacturers.”
Formulation support for high-performance sun care products
With rising demand for multifunctional sun protection products, Univar Solutions says the partnership opens new formulation opportunities. “These filters are designed for facial and body care applications,” Peterson said, “allowing formulators to create a wide range of products – from lightweight daily moisturizers with SPF to high-performance sunscreens with water resistance and highly efficacious multi-use products.”
The company’s local market presence and formulation support are key components of the partnership’s rollout. “We are working to provide easier access to high-quality ingredients and local technical support,” Buckup said in the company’s press release, “while increasing their speed to market and enabling more innovative solutions to reach consumers seeking exceptional sun protection.”
Beyond distribution, Univar Solutions will leverage its global Solution Centers to help customers incorporate the BVSUN technology into product development pipelines. “Our sweet spot lies at the intersection of innovation and consumer insight, where today’s trends meet tomorrow’s impact,” Peterson said.
He added that the company’s deep customer intimacy, marketing expertise, and co-creation capabilities allow it to translate trends into effective product prototypes that enhance innovation responsiveness.
Sustainability as a shared priority
The partnership is grounded in a shared commitment to environmental responsibility. “By partnering with Best Value Chem, an organization that shares its commitment to environmental responsibility and community impact,” Peterson said, “Univar Solutions is reinforcing its global ESG strategy through ingredient innovation.”
According to the press release, Best Value Chem’s emphasis on environmental responsibility and research investment aligns with Univar Solutions’ strategy to help customers create responsible, high-performance products.
“UV protection is not a trend – it’s a necessity,” Peterson said in the release. “Our exclusive partnership with Best Value Chem underscores our commitment to offering best-in-class specialty ingredients to the sun care market.”
Ongoing portfolio expansion planned
The BVSUN product line will join Univar Solutions’ portfolio of specialty ingredients aimed at the personal care sector, supported by in-region formulation labs and technical teams. “We remain committed to introducing new and novel ingredients to the market as we continue to expand our global CARE portfolio with purpose and precision,” Peterson said.
The company has signaled interest in further expanding exclusive partnerships across other regions and categories, with Brazil positioned as a springboard for wider growth in Latin America’s sun care sector.
