The newly launched product, called Body Badalada Vitamin-Infused Lotion, is aimed at Gen Z consumers who have “grown weary of the minimalist, clean girl movement”.
It is the brand’s first-ever lotion product, and it claims to provide round-the-clock hydration without heaviness and redefine body care “more than scent alone”.
“The inspiration for Body Badalada began with a simple but powerful insight: Gen Z doesn’t want to just care for their skin, they want to express something deeper. It is developed based on the notion that people don’t just want to consume, they want to project.
“Today’s body care consumer is seeking more than just basic hydration. They want products that are both efficacious and experiential, delivering visible results while transforming daily routines into moments of confidence and self-connection.
“Body Badalada represents a new generation of body lotion — weightless, high-performance, and rooted in sensory impact. It was designed specifically for the body care needs of Gen Z. It seeks to bring people closer to their bodies, to each other, and to self-expression. It’s a product that inspires and makes you feel confident and ready to take up space,” Sol de Janeiro told CosmeticsDesign-Asia.
According to the brand, while the skin care industry has long catered to elaborate, multi-step routines, body care has remained an afterthought.
Centred on Brazilian beauty rituals, which celebrates full body care as an act of self-love and confidence, Sol de Janeiro’s approach is to bring together high-performance ingredients, clinically backed results, and textures and scents that turn everyday moments into personal celebration.
“Sol de Janeiro set off a boom in products that pamper the skin below your chin, creating a new kind of body care ritual that transforms everyday self-care into a meaningful moment of connection with your body. Featuring vibrant packaging that stands out, our brand offers something that feels transportive and emotionally resonant to consumers globally.”
The Body Badalada Vitamin-Infused Lotion is available in South East Asia, Australia, Middle East, South Africa, Europe, and the US.
In Singapore, it was launched in-store and online via Sephora on May 29.
Skin, scent and self
The key ingredients in the Body Badalada Lotion include Brazilian sugarcane, a natural source of glycolic acid to boost surface-level hydration; a 7-hyaluronic acid blend, whereby seven different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid drive moisture deep into the skin; Brazil nut oil, which is rich in vitamin E, omega-3 and omega-6; and cactus pear extract, known for its hydrating, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.
The formula is claimed to deeply nourish the skin while creating a lasting, visible glow.
“Not only is it fast-absorbing and non-sticky, but it is also infused with our iconic Cheirosa 62 scent (a gourmand fragrance containing notes of pistachio and salted caramel). It feels as empowering as it smells, keeping skin hydrated from sunrise to after-party.
“It’s also our first pump-format product for quick, seamless application — perfect for the summer body care routine, enhancing both skin and presence.”
To bring the spirit of Badalada (Portuguese slang for “the hottest thing”) to life, Sol de Janeiro launched a creator-led campaign featuring internet personalities like Juliana Nalú, Bretman Rock, Samyra Miller, and Nick Pauley.
Body lotion vs body cream
The Body Badalada Lotion differentiates itself from the brand’s hero product Brazilian Bum Bum Cream in various ways, from ingredients to texture.
The Bum Bum Cream is formulated with caffeine-rich Guaraná extract to help tighten the appearance of skin, cupuaçu butter for its hydrating and antioxidant properties, and plant squalane to lock in moisture.
When applied, it adds a subtle hint of shimmer to the skin due to natural mica.
“While body cream and body lotion both help to hydrate skin, they have key differences. Body lotion formulas often are more lightweight and higher in water content, enabling them to absorb into the skin quickly — a great choice for normal to oily skin types and easy everyday use.
“Body creams, on the other hand, are thicker and form a barrier to help lock in hydration, making them a great option for dry skin. Additionally, they have a creamy texture thanks to a high concentration of emollient oils and butters.”
