20+ companies in beauty made Forbes 2019 list of America's Best Employers for Diversity
The Forbes 2019 list of America's Best Employers for Diversity is based on employee opinion survey data gathered in partnership with Statista and takes in to consideration companies’ “diverse boards and executive ranks and the most proactive diversity and inclusion initiatives,” according to Vicky Valet’s cover article for the list.
This is only the second year Forbes has complied the list; and Valet acknowledges that “while it may often seem that no employer is getting diversity and inclusion right….some companies have been making progress.”
Philosophy
Direct sales beauty company Mary Kay earned a spot (150 of 500) on this year’s list. And Melinda Sellers, the company’s chief people officer, tells the press, “At Mary Kay, we know our commitment to diversity makes us stronger.”
“What sets Mary Kay apart,” explains Sellers in a media release, “is its enthusiastic adherence to the principles on which Mary Kay Ash, our founder, formed the Company. She believed that everyone wore an invisible sign around their neck that read ‘make me feel important.’ We think she was right and use that philosophy in all of our diversity efforts.”
