ACI's first US Microalgae Industry Summit set for May 2019 will include cosmetics and personal care topics
Algae and algae outputs are increasingly useful in the cosmetics, personal care, and fragrance industries—a fact that is not lost on global events producer Active Communications International. The company is hosting its first US Microalgae Industry Summit this spring and the call for papers and registration are open now.

ACI has previously hosted 8 summits on microalgae in Europe and believes that the time is right to hold such an event here in the States.

The first US Microalgae Industry Summit will take place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Wednesday May 15 and Thursday May 16.

Beauty people

Whether through biotech-enabled ingredient production; or as ingredients in beauty-from-the-inside-out functional food products or in topical cosmetics and personal care formulations, microalgae are gaining prominence in beauty.

And according the ACI site previewing the upcoming microalgae summit, beauty makers commonly attend these events; as do nutraceutical and nutrition makers, microalgae producers, consultants, cultivation and processing tech providers, as well as biotech experts and investors.

Microalgae topics

The 2-day event will cover an array of topics, including Changing The Consumer’s Perception Towards Algae Use; Exploring The Most Efficient Marketing Solutions For Algae Products; Making The Most Of New Technologies And Developments In Microalgae Production; In Search For The Best Policy and Regulation Solutions For The Microalgae Industry; and Exploring Nutritional Applications for Algae.

These are issues of relevance to beauty makers today, especially given Lumen Bioscience’s new patent on Spirulina gene editing tech, Croda’s new marine biotech facility in PEI, and advances in algae use as both an ingredient and an ingredient-producing instrument—all news items covered here on Cosmetics Design in recent weeks.

Lisa Pickel, senior scientist for personal care ingredient maker Algenol Biotech, will being presenting at the summit; as will David Ramjohn, CEO of AlgEternal Technologies, the microalgae products producer behind the AlgAllure skin care brand; a handful of other speakers have already been confirmed too.

Summit participation

The ACI is, according to the event site, currently reading speaker submissions for next year’s US Microalgae Industry Summit. Abstracts for talks ranging from 30 – 45 minutes are being considered. And, interested experts should call or email Pedro Xavier at +48 61 646 70 23 pxavier@acieu.net.

Registration info can be found here; and an early-bird pricing option is available through December 21, 2018.
