TRI-K launches grain-based personal care ingredients at in-cosmetics global
The multifunctional peptide expert debuted its two latest beauty ingredients at last month’s tradeshow event in Amsterdam—one for hair care and one for skin care—expanding the TRI-K NaturePep product line.

The NaturePep line of ingredients is pretty much what it sounds like: a line of natural peptides. Until last month’s launch, the line comprised NaturePep Pea and NaturePep Sacha Inchi, both for use in skin care product formulations. (Read more about those personal care ingredients here on Cosmetics Design.)

Now, the line also includes NaturePep Amaranth and NaturePep Quinoa.

NaturePep Amaranth

Amaranth is a grain that’s been cultivated for its edible seeds for thousands of years, much like rice or wheat.

According to TRI-K presentation materials about the new NaturePep ingredient, amaranth has a high protein content, a well-balanced amino acid profile, and contains 8 essential amino acids. Adding to the grain’s potential as a personal care ingredient in the current market, amaranth is (as TRI-K points out) “naturally gluten free.”

The company has positioned NaturePep Amaranth as an ingredient for use in hair care formulations that target fine hair. TRI-K testing has demonstrated the following benefits:

NaturePep Amaranth “increases diameter of individual fibers for fuller hair,” “reduces friction to increase bounce and movement of hair,” “adds gloss and shine for healthier looking hair,” and “improves manageability and helps prevent damage.”

NaturePep Quinoa

Quinoa, like amaranth, is a high-protein grain with a long history of cultivation. The new quinoa ingredient is best suited to skin care, under-eye care products in particular.

According to TRI-K testing data NaturePep Quinoa “visibly reduces under eye bags and puffiness,” “diminishes eyeline creases and folds to lift and reshape eyes,” and “reduces eyelid roughness.”

NaturePep Quinoa “stimulates adipocyte lipolysis to break down fat under the eyes; due to the natural formation of vegetable carnitine during [the] manufacturing process,” according to the company’s presentation materials. Additionally, the new ingredient“upregulates TGF-β1 that stimulates production of ECM proteins to improve structural integrity of the skin.”

TRI-K will be showcasing these new peptides again at the upcoming NYSCC Suppliers’ Day event this month in New York City.
