Angus Chemical launches multifunctional ingredient for oxidative hair colorants
Angus Chemical is aiming to extend the life of hair colorants with its new multifunctional ingredient DMAMP ULTRA PC as an alternative to MEA and ammonia-base

The solution has been developed in response to the huge spike in the range of hair colors, which in recent years has gone beyond the regular blonde, red and brunette to include highly adventurous colorants in shades of pink, purple, blue, yellow and everything in between.

The renewed interest in more dynamic colors has led to a big spike in the overall demand for hair colorants, which Angus executives claim to have resulted in an 8% spike in growth, year-on-year, in the global market place.

Consumer concern for healthy hair

But consumers’ interest in hair colorants goes beyond funky colors. According to the development team at Angus, there is also an increasing concern about hair health which is leading to the development of products that go beyond coloring to ensure that hair stays in great condition.

DMAP ULTRA PC has been developed in response to these dual needs, providing a multifunctional alkalizing agent for use in professional and retail oxidative hair colorants.

The team says the solution provides formulation benefits for a number of different types of hair colorants, including the spectrum of hair colors, as well as products that are aimed at more mature hair types.

Superior color deposition, even after 15 washes

“When compared to commercial and formulated systems that use the same chassis but with alkalizing agents like MEA and ammonia, our hair color formulations using DMAMP ULTRA PC showed superior color deposition and improved wash fastness on bleached hair, especially in red and black shades. It also performed better on gray coverage, maintaining the color even after 15 washes,” said Ruth Kuriyama, Customer Application Specialist for ANGUS in Latin America.

“In addition, DMAMP ULTRA PC does not have a harsh odor, which makes it an ideal alternative to ammonia in hair coloring applications.”

The product launch is a response to certain segments of the market that are looking for ammonia- and MEA-free hair colorants and builds on Angus’s dedicated portfolio of hard-working multifunctional ingredients targeted at the hair care category.
