This week, the specialty ingredient maker announced that its jojoba exfoliant plant is newly enlarged—a development that Vantage hopes will further secure the company’s position as an industry-leading supplier of naturally based exfoliants for use in skin cleansing personal care product formulations.

Vantage has global headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, and produces specialty chemicals for “personal care, food, consumer, and industrial end markets,” according to the company site. Vantage farms jojoba in both the US and Argentina, and boasts being “the only vertically-integrated company that owns every step in the jojoba supply chain -- from farming to oil extraction, to exfoliants and derivatives production,” as the company notes in a media release about its newly increased production capabilities.

The company describes itself as “the world’s largest jojoba grower and ingredient producer, with a leading global supplier position in jojoba-based ingredients for the beauty market.”

An alternative to microbeads

Exfoliating plastic microbeads have fallen out of favor and are being incrementally legislated out of use worldwide. Whether to meet consumer expectations or comply with new laws and regulations, formulators are increasingly working with alternatives.

“We are well-positioned to meet the growing global demand for jojoba-based exfoliants as customers continue turning to these biodegradable materials as part of their efforts to replace polyethylene beads,” Patrick Brueggman, senior vice president and general manager at Vantage, tells the press.

“We…are proud to expand our exfoliant production capabilities,” he says, adding that “Vantage’s continued investments around jojoba are proof of our commitment to providing long-term support for our customers and the beauty market.”

More new ingredients

As part of the company’s ‘farm to formula’ supply chain strategy, Vantage has made the investment to expand its jojoba-based exfoliant production capabilities.

The exfoliating ingredients Vantage makes with jojoba include Jojoba Scrubeads and Jojoba Spheres. To explain a bit further, the company’s Scrubeads “are created from a combination of castor oil and jojoba wax” and are suitable “for formulations that require higher mixing temperatures, as their melting point is 82-90 C, being above that of a traditional wax sphere,” according to press materials on the company’s product portfolio.

These and similar ingredient make up what Vantage calls its Desert Whale Jojoba collection, a portfolio of “exfoliants which are natural, sustainable and biodegradable.”
