Saturday is National Lipstick Day!

Saturday, July 29, 2017 is National Lipstick Day!
A beauty marketer's dream, the day is on track to be full of lip product launches, brand celebrations, and social media posts appended with the hastag #nationalipstickday.

The industry and makeup lovers have been celebrating National Lipstick Day for years. Though, as the National Day Calendar site explains, “in prior years, National Lipstick Day celebrations have occurred on an annual basis with no declaration. As of 2016, beauty blogger, entrepreneur and International Businesswoman, Huda Kattan was named the modern day founder of National Lipstick Day by a Proclamation from National Day Calendar’s Registrar.”

So it’s little wonder that one of Friday’s lip color launches comes from Huda Beauty.  The new Liquid Matte will come in 16 shades and retail at Sephora. In a statement to the press about the forthcoming launch, Kattan says, “I created Liquid Matte because I could never find a liquid lipstick that suited my needs. This formula is so light, your lips feel bare, but it gives you a long-lasting, transfer-free finish in shades to die for.”

“When I put my lipstick on in the morning, I feel ready to conquer the world. I created these products in hopes that anyone who wears them feels the same way,”​ adds Kattan.

Legacy brands will be celebrating lipstick this weekend to. L’Oréal Paris announced earlier this week that it will launch its New Colour Riche Matte Lipstick on the 29th. And the brand has its own hashtag for the celebration: #ReadMyLips. Anne Marie Nelson-Bogle, SVP of marketing at L'Oréal Paris USA, explains, “Conversations around National Lipstick Day have traditionally been focused on best-sellers and general lipstick facts.”

“As a brand that has supported the individual beauty and intrinsic worth of all people for over forty years, we wanted to participate in and elevate the conversation by not only celebrating our newest Colour Riche lip launch but even more importantly, people's powerful words,”​ says Nelson-Bogle in a L’Oréal Paris press release about National Lipstick Day.

Avon is getting in on the action too. The company is running a sweepstakes that starts on National Lipstick Day; and in partnership with brand ambassador Lucy Hale and celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan, Avon has been celebrating its Avon True Color Lipstick collection (40 shades, 2 finishes) nearly all month.

“Every day is National Lipstick Day for me,”​ Hale tells the press. “I've always loved experimenting with lipstick. Whether I'm going for high-impact color or something way more subtle, a single swipe of Avon color instantly defines my look – from a pale pink to a bold red shade.”​
