The organisers of the in-cosmetics trade show are turning their attention to the summit arena announcing its first ever Formulation Summit to focus on texture and sensoriality in personal care.

The new event will take place on November 24-25, 2015, at the Bloomsbury Hotel in London and will be based on formulators’ opinions collected by Reed Exhibitions through interviews.

According to these surveys, over 60% of formulators ranked texture and sensoriality among the top formulating challenges for their brands today.

“Throughout the industry and at our shows, we’re seeing plenty of innovation in the functional side of cosmetics,” explains in-cosmetics Exhibition Director Cathy Laporte.

“But there are many questions about how to incorporate these new texture and sensory developments into current formulations, especially in relation to changes in the regulatory landscape and consumer needs, as well as time and cost constraints.”

Educational programme

You would imagine, given its years of experience in the exhibition world and with a substantial educational programme that takes place within these shows that putting on the summit would be second nature to the organisers, and it boasts over 20 experts from beauty brands, academia and regulatory bodies.

The Summit programme promises to address the industry’s latest regulatory challenge related to sustainability and texture: microplastics in cosmetic formulations. This will be presented by speakers from Oriflame, as well as Cosmetics Europe, who will discuss the latest regulatory thinking at a European level and implications for this new facet of sustainability.

The two day event will also have a focus on texture innovations from Asia with developments emerging in Europe too.

The summit will also encourage debate and feature cross-industry learning from the food and drink sector including a review of gourmet texture trends and sensory analysis techniques that are now being applied to cosmetics.

There will also be an interactive texture bar with the latest emollients, foaming agents and rheology modifiers.  Kline Group will share new research on the functional ingredient segments driving the current sensorial revolution.
