The company, which has been operating the facility DeKalb, Mississippi, since April, has laid off nearly half of the employees there until delayed ingredient shipments arrive.

The Mississippi manufacturing facility is the first US plant operated by Emilia Resources, a subsidiary of Emilia Cosmetics. The company acquired the FDA-certified production facility from Pharma Pac LLC earlier this year.

The facility comprises laboratories, formulation workplaces, and package filling equipment.  As part of the acquisition, Emilia expanded its product range to include additional acne care products, rosacea products and more.

"Our decision to invest in this asset acquisition was driven by the desire to support US manufacturing jobs, gain additional redundancy for Emilia Personal Care customers, and expand our product portfolio offerings to existing and new customers to support the fast growing CPG industry with innovative, flexible production," explained Renee Barch-Niles, president of Emilia Personal Care when the acquisition was announced.

Slow start
Ingredient shipments to the plant have been delayed, according to reports from local media including wtok.com. Delivery is expected within six week. Until then, thirty or more Emilia employees have been laid off.

When the facility opened, Emilia Resources employed 76 people.

Private label
Emilia manufactures personal care products in several categories: natural care, fragrance, sun care, facial care, body care, hair care, men’s grooming and others. The company counts Walgreens, RiteAid, Kroger, and Walmart among its private label clients.

No word yet on whether the ingredient delay will mean delayed delivery of finished goods.
