Retailer and beauty brand provider Sally Beauty has acquired a share in the business of professional beauty retailer Essential Salon Products.

The acquisition was made through the company’s subsidiary, Beauty Systems Group, and is expected to benefit Sally Beauty’s scope for the distribution of professional beauty products in the Northeast region of the US, where Essential Salon Products has an established footprint.

According to Sally Beauty, the transaction includes the acquisition of twelve Essential Salon stores and store team members, the addition of several direct sales consultants and exclusive distribution rights to prominent professional hair care brands.

Extending store coverage

Currently Essential Salon stores are located in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine and New Hampshire.

“This acquisition is consistent with our strategy to gain additional exclusive distribution rights of prestige hair care brands in the US,” said John Golliher, president of the Beauty Systems Group.

“The addition of Essential Salon’s twelve stores and talented employees should further strengthen BSG’s position in the Northeast.”

Acquisitions continue to build Sally Beauty business

In recent years Sally Beauty has been building the company on the back of business acquisitions and the addition of further stores to extend its nationwide coverage.

But growth has also concentrated on the European market, with the company extending its footprint there with the acquisition of the Netherlands-based business Kapperservice Floral and two related companies at the end of 2011.

The company’s acquisition trail has led to continued growth in recent years, and for the fiscal year 2012 consolidated sales grew 8 percent to reach over $3.5 billion, with same store sales growth of 6.4 percent.
