Air Products, owner of Germany-based Rovi Cosmetics, is launching its new Dermohydrine cellular active at the in-cosmetics event in Paris taking place this week.

According to Air Products, Dermohydrine cellular active infuses the skin with natural extracts to help improve the moisture retention levels of the epidermis, lessen skin dryness and sustain a healthy skin appearance.

The company notes that the ingredient is effective for normal to dry skin, including skin exposed to harsh conditions. Suitable for face and body care formulations,  Dermohydrine cellular active is Ecocert-approved, thus fitting with consumer preferences towards natural ingredients.

“Skin moisturisation is an important part of consumers’ daily skincare routines, and our new, scientifically-based solution can help formulators deliver a cost-effective and natural solution to their customers,” said Solomon Lemma, global business manager for Personal Care at Air Products.

Effective in enhancing moisture retention levels

The skin hydration benefits of Dermohydrine cellular active were assessed via two in vivo studies performed in the spring and autumn, with a corneometer used to measure skin hydration.

In the spring study, seven panelists applied a base formulation containing 3 percent Dermohydrine cellular active and the same formulation containing 0.2 per cent sodium hyaluronate twice daily to the lower leg for seven days. Air Products notes that after seven days, the formula containing Dermohydrine cellular active had performed notably better than the formulation containing sodium hyaluronate.

Similarly, in the autumn study, where five panelists applied three different base formulations twice daily to the lower leg for 28 days, the formula containing 3 percent Dermohydrine cellular active was found to provide a significant improvement in skin moisture compared to the same formulation containing 5 percent urea and the one containing 0.2 percent sodium hyaluronate.

Consumer panel test

Additionally, an in vivo consumer panel test was carried out where 21 panelists subjectively evaluated the effects of a body cream containing 3 percent Dermohydrine cellular active based on various criteria.

Air Products highlights that after 28 days of applying the body cream twice daily to the lower leg, the majority of panelists favourably rated the formulation containing Dermohydrine cellular active in terms of skin smoothness, softness, healthy look and non-fatty sensation.

Furthermore, the company states that the majority of panelists who said they suffered from specified dry skin discomfort factors rated the same formulation as above average as a moisturiser in improving skin itchiness, tightness, scaliness, and redness.
