Packaging player HCT Group and skin care provider Applied Minerals have formed a joint venture to produce a line of natural skin care products.

Through its Halloysite Clay Solutions division, Applied Minerals has expertise in all-natural specialty skin care products which are based around its Dragonnite Halloysite Clay brand, based around the Halloysite aluminosilicate clay mineral.

The extensive line of products will be based on the Dragonite-PureWhite technology, which is based around the aluminosilicate clay mineral and will be used to create a number of high-end products in the skin care, fragrance, deodorant, color cosmetic, nail products and extender categories.

Halloysite clay has widespread uses in cosmetics

The technology is already used in an extensive line of cosmetic and personal care products, which, on top of the targeted categories for the partnership, also include hair care, sun care, oral care and bug repellant areas.

“The joint venture will call upon a world class R&D team to develop highly innovative consumer products featuring Applied Minerals’ unique material and technological know-how, allowing us to bring exclusive new products and concepts to HCT’s customers,” said Tim Thorpe, president of HCT.

The Dragonite-PureWhite technology possesses what the company claims is a unique micro-tubular morphology that creates many applications for the cosmetics industry.

Claimed to use the purest form of Halloysite clay

The ingredient is produced exclusively by Applied Minerals through its wholly owned Dragon Mine deposit in Utah, which the company claims is the source of the world’s purest Halloysite Clay.

The expansion of the ingredient and creation of the new skin care line taps into the still fast growing trend for natural based cosmetic products, particularly for the skin care market, where offering at the top end of the market have proliferated in recent years.

HCT and Applied Minerals say they are in preliminary discussions with branding and distribution partners that will help foster the image and direction that has already been created for the brand under the joint venture.
