The holiday season is expected to bring joy to men’s grooming manufacturers, as shaving sets and grooming products are seen as perfect gifts at this time of year.

Figures for the men’s grooming are already up and market analyst NPD reported earlier this year that the category was showing healthy growth, as men are purchasing the tools to help them better their look.

Double-digit increase

The men’s grooming industry generated $964 million in US department store sales alone in 2011, an increase of 11 percent, compared to 2010, says NPD.

With the holiday season fast approaching, men’s grooming product specialist, The Groomed Man, is now anticipating a jump in sales as shaving sets and grooming products attract new customers, proving them to be the ideal gift for all men.

“Shaving sets and grooming products are a no-brainer as every man, no matter his age, wants to look good for the [holiday] party season,” says Den Peasegood, founder of The Groomed Man.

The ramp up to holiday sales comes right after another important date in the men’s grooming calendar, as fundraising initiative 'Movember' draws to a close.

Movember campaign

The campaign aims to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer and other male cancers, by encouraging men to not shave their moustaches for the whole month of November.

In the US alone, almost 241,740 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed this year.

To participate, men must start Movember 1st clean shaven and grow their ‘Mo’ for the month. As the Mo grows, it becomes the "hairy ribbon" for men's health, and the guys growing them become walking billboards for 30 days.

"Movember is about men growing and women supporting the growth of real moustaches to open up much needed dialogue around men's health issues. We've found that each moustache generates 2,413 conversations in-person and on-line during the month, raising awareness which is saving and changing lives," said Adam Garone, CEO and co-founder of Movember.

"Our success is due to the 855,203 amazing supporters who participated globally in 2011, raising $126.3 million to change the face of men's health."

Grooming brand 'The Art of Shaving', was just one of the many men’s products companies to team up with the pioneering global men's health charity and got involved by offering a complimentary Movember Hot Towel Shave to all registrants.
