Market researcher finds global adhesives market to reach $50 billion in 2019
This comes as good news for the cosmetics industry as water and solvent-based adhesives appear in almost everything from a product’s packaging to eyelash glue applications.
According to the market research firm, the strongest demand so far comes from the packaging and construction industries and dynamic economic development in emerging countries such as China, India, Russia and Brazil is stimulating further growth, which is predicted to rise by 2 percent per year over the next eight years.
‘Green Glue’
Furthermore, the report reveals that more than half of the adhesives in demand on a global level in 2011 were water-based and a continuing increase in demand in the next eight years is forecast, as more and more solvent-based adhesives are replaced by other technologies.
"Changes due to ecological aspects will have effects on both the production processes of adhesives as well as on further substitutions of various types of adhesives."
Ceresana also says the production of adhesives based on renewable biological products will lead to more independence from oil and improve the CO2 balance.
Adhesive eliminating problems
Earlier in the year DaniMer Scientific announced it had developed a biobased label adhesive said to eliminate problems associated with PET container recycling and enables increased end of life functionality and value.
“This is the first hot melt adhesive in the world that is both renewable in content and completely dissolves in the PET recycling wash process,” a company spokesperson had told CosmeticsDesign.com USA.
The label contains more than 50 percent renewable content and dissolves in polyethylene terephthalate flake caustic wash recycling operations ‘without clumps or stickies.’
