Cosmetics Design caught up with Lionel Genix, marketing manager for Dow Personal Care, at last week's in-cosmetics event in Barcelona to find out about the launch of a new family of sustainable surfactants and a waterproof polymer.

The EcoSense surfactants line is a group of surfactants that has been designed around sustainable principles, making it both natural-based and biodegradeable, in turn giving formulators of natural cosmetic and personal care products more choice in an area where natural solutions are not always readily available.

According to Genix, this launch taps into big demand for natural functional ingredients for the shampoo and body wash categories and is part of the company's core strategy concerning heightened sustainability objectives.

Dow Personal Care was also platforming a new waterproof polymer Epitex 66, which is an emulsion that combines enhanced water resistance, ideally targeting a large variety of sunscreen products.

Genix explained the company's belief that this ingredient is a breakthrough technology for the suncare segment, where sun protection combined with water-proofing functions are seen as paramount to providing enhanced sun protection during a day out at the beach or swimming pool.
