Air products acquires actives player ROVI Cosmetics
US-based Air Products said that the acquisition of Germany-based ROVI gives it strong footprint in the European market for cosmetic actives and delivery systems within the European personal care market.
ROVI is a leading player in this niche market and employs a staff of 18 people, specialized in developing and producing delivery systems aimed at providing additional performance for finished hair and skin care products.
Acquisition targets further expansion into personal care
Air Products vice president and general manager of performance materials, Pam Mattimore, explained that the ROVI acquisition will allow the company to continue its expansion into the global personal care arena.
“This acquisition adds critical mass to our business as we develop into a differentiated specialty ingredient supplier to the personal care industry,” she said.
Last year Air Products, which has a $10bn turnover and locations in 40 countries, highlighted its increasing presence in personal care with the launch of a new polymer designed to help deposit actives for either hair or skin care formulations.
Deposilk Q1 Polymer
The new ingredient, Deposilk Q1 Polymer, was billed as the first in a new product line that was showcased at last year’s in-cosmetics event, held in Milan, Italy.
The portfolio also includes Hybridur 875 polymer dispersion, which is an urethane-acrylic pure hybrid polymer aimed at providing film forming benefits, lending formulations protection from water, transferance, and other environmental factors.
ROVI Cosmetics has a portfolio of around 50 different ingredients targeted at a range of cosmetic and personal care applications, including skin care applications such as sun care, anti-aging and moisturisation, as well as hair care applications such as hair repair and strengthening.
