Red mangrove extract is more potent than vitamin C, says expert
According to cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Oscar Hevia, DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) tests have revealed the antioxidant strength from the red mangrove plant to be more potent than vitamin C.

Mangroves, indigenous to the coasts of Florida and the Caribbean, play an important ecological role in maintaining the health of these regions and have been found to contain anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that aid in soothing and healing the skin.

In his quest to find scientifically active ingredients to help prevent skin aging and encourage skin rejuvenation, Dr. Hevia, founder of Hevia Cosmetic Dermatology and The Hevia Centre for Research, discovered the natural plant extract brimming with antioxidant properties.

Through his clinical research, the dermatologist detected that the skin can be safeguarded the skin and cellular health can be promoted in much in the same way the mangrove plant protects itself from harsh elements.

Through a unique and proprietary extraction process, using red mangrove seedlings, which are ecologically grown and harvested exclusively, I was able to produce a powerful, patent-pending, anti-aging antioxidant”, says Dr. Hevia.

Tried and tested

A DPPH antioxidant test, dermal fibroblast in vitro toxicity testing, epidermal skin model toxicity testing and HPLC to determine the level of antioxidants have all been carried out by third party laboratories according to Hevia, which proved the plant extract’s effectiveness.

Technology

Using innovative technology, Dr. Hevia applied his research to create his own skincare line ‘Hevia Skin Science…Ingredients with a Purpose’ that features the antioxidant extract and his own OH-XI complex (a blend of powerful antioxidants and peptides that protect the skin against environmental aging factors).

Dr. Hevia has established himself as an expert cosmetic dermatologist for more than two decades and is well known for interest in natural ingredients for anti-aging purposes. He has participated in numerous clinical trials for pharmaceutical companies; performed in-depth research and conducted numerous case studies to determine the effectiveness of various skin-enhancing products, a pursuit that has led to the launch of his line of skincare products.
