Virginia-based packaging firm MeadWestvaco (MWV) will focus on customer partnerships, new innovation, and targeting emerging markets as part of its profitable growth strategies to boost its personal care business.

Our goal is to deliver 5-10 percent growth across our company … in personal care specifically, we expect to grow by expanding our business with existing customers for fragrance pumps and other dispensers, continuing to grow our airless dispensing products – especially in emerging markets, and commercializing new product innovations”, an MWV spokesperson told CosmeticsDesign.comUSA.

The company added that these strategies should grow its business in markets where it already has a presence, over the next three to five years.

Driving growth in emerging markets

As part of boosting its presence, the company is targeting Brazil, China and India with plans to expand its manufacturing capabilities in these markets.

With a growing middle class, an increasing interest in luxury goods, and significantly higher consumption of all consumer product categories…we think these hold huge promise for our personal care packaging business”, the company spokesperson said.

In Brazil, MWV has long been present and currently has two manufacturing plants producing folding cartons and pumps and sprays, which the company will expand upon and in particular its airless dispensing products, the company spokesperson said.

India is also another market which MWV is focusing on, due to the emergence of a middle class and established importance placed on beauty such as skin care, anti-aging and skin whitening as a few examples the company spokesperson mentioned.

In this market, the company has not developed any concrete plans of action but having a presence currently, has pointed to developing its manufacturing capabilities through both expansion of its distribution network and manufacturing facilities.
