SCC awards BASF scientists at Annual Scientific Meeting

Two BASF scientists have received awards from the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists at the Annual Scientific Meeting and Technology Showcase, for papers on hair and make-up technology.

Dr Manual Gamez-Garcia was awarded the Shaw Mudge award for his paper, titled ‘hair setting with hot irons and heat activation’, analyzing the various factors involved in the process of hair setting with hot irons, including the effects of temperature, water, solvents, and other ingredients on the process.

Dr Steven A. Jones was awarded the Allan B Black award for his paper on make-up technology which was published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science. The paper, entitled "Basic Optics of Effect Materials" covered the nature of light, interference of waves, thin-film interference and color travel.

The Annual Scientific Meeting and Technology Showcase is a technical forum for the exchange of new developments and ideas in cosmetic research technology that attracts more than 400 cosmetic scientists.
