Sonoco develops new plastic container plant in Ohio

South Carolina-based packaging manufacturer Sonoco has started constructing a new rigid plastic container operation in New Albany, Ohio, to produce containers and components for personal care products.

As part of the new beauty and home care campus in Ohio, the new facility is expected to be operational by the end of the second quarter of 2012.

120,000 plus

According to Rodger Fuller, vice president of Rigid Paper and Plastics, Sonoco new plant, when built, the new plant will be 120,000-plus square-feet.

Additionally, the company will install several PET injection stretch blow-molding and injection molding lines to produce packaging and components for personal care products.

The total cost of the plant building and equipment is projected to be approximately $15 million and the operation will employ around 60 new workers.

Beauty and home care

The new plant is being developed for the production of personal care products components and containers for Mast Global, the sourcing and logistics division of Limited Brands.

Limited Brands represents brands such as Bath and Body Works and C.O Bigelow; initially the new plant will be producing products for Bath and Body Works stores.

"Limited Brands has been an important customer of Sonoco for several years and we are pleased to continue this important relationship with the development of a new facility in the New Albany/Columbus area​," commented Gendreau.
