New skin care line targets pregnant women with organic products
New skin care company Bionee vows to tackle the problems pregnancy related problems in women with its latest dedicated product range which is certified organic.

The firm of French origin was founded by Eva Asmar along with her husband Georges, following the birth of her own child, and is now based out of New York.

“Bionee products are dedicated to the needs of pregnant women, new mothers and babies. They aim to comfort and soothe the skin and fight pregnancy related problems,” she told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.

“As the organic market grows and green awareness becomes more popular it is becoming more important to be organic.”

Importance of being organic

Asmar stressed the importance of being organic for Bionee as it is based on providing safe and efficient products for women and children. Pregnant women and babies have such sensitive skin that being natural and organic is important during this time.

The main aims of the organically certified range are to prevent stretch marks and pregnancy acne, skin tightening and leg relaxation. The ‘Revitalizing Face Cream’ also contains a natural alternative to anti-aging chemicals such as retinol.

“The current organic pregnancy skin care market is rather small as there are only a few large brands covering this area,” stated Asmar.

“Our products are barely shy of 100 per cent natural and levels of organic content reaching 81.91 per cent - very high for an organic product,” she continued.

Bionee is organic certified by Ecocert, an internationally recognised organisation. It has also received an official safety statement for pregnancy and baby.

Tested for links to birth defects

In order to claim ‘suitable for newborns’ as well as ‘safe for pregnancy’ Bionée tested its formulations for non mutagenicity and reprotoxicity to assure that none of the ingredients have any remote links to birth defects.

“This is important because during pregnancy there are many products and ingredients that women cannot use because they are harmful or may cause birth defects. Bionee strives to provide products that women can use during this sensitive time,” said Asmar.

The products are made with ‘wonder’ ingredients such as acerola fruit extract, boswellia oil, neem seed oil, organic sea buckthorn oil, red grape leaf extract as well as many others.

“We call them our wonder ingredients because they are collected from all over the world and recommended by the women who use them. Each has a specific benefit for skin,” explained Asmar.
