US-based skincare line Artistry from Amway, has utilized a patented targeting complex technology from the University of Michigan into its anti-wrinkle serum, which it claims reduces common side effects associated with retinol treatments.

Retinol is one of the most effective ingredients recommended by skincare professionals to treat signs of aging – because it works to rebuild skin’s elasticity and firmness while reducing visible wrinkles”, said Catherine Ehrenberger, vice president of Amway.

Targeted retinol, vitamin C and peptides were added to our multi-functional formula to help restore and renew skin’s resilience.”

Researchers from the University of Michigan, based on their recent research, believe that retinol-based sensitivity is a result of the activation of a protein called epidermal growth factor receptor (EFGR) and claim to have identified natural products, such as soy compounds, that limit this activation.

People often turn to retinol treatment for signs of aging, but 90 per cent of those undergoing treatment, experience unwanted side effects such as dermatitis, which causes dryness and flaking.

We saw that retinol, while efficacious in rebuilding the skin’s collagen matrix, also caused discomfort that was preventing many women from gaining its benefits”, said Gary Fisher, Ph.D, University of Michigan.

Using the new technology from the University of Michigan, Amway has stated that Artistry serum works by utilizing powerful collagen-boosting ingredients such as ‘next generation retinol’, peptides and vitamin C along with a balancing complex of soothing anti-irritants, moisture barrier restorers and anti-oxidants.

The company has said that side effects are diminished using a natural plant-based blend of soy isoflavones, soy peptides and apple extracts, which make up the Targeting Complex.

Furthermore, Amway claims its Artistry skincare serum has produced three times more collagen activity, in lab tests, in overnight cell cultures. Furthermore, it states that the serum’s key benefits include encouragement of skin to produce more collagen, softening and reducing appearance of wrinkles, and keeping skin looking healthy; it also claims to be compatible with all skin types.
