Consumers can add ‘Boosters’ to personalize creams, claims manufacturer

A range of ‘Power Boosters’ has been launched that allow consumers to personalize or boost the efficacy of the creams they buy over the counter.

According to the company, consumers can blend the additives into skin creams that they have already purchased to add new characteristics to the product.

Personalisation of products

Personalization of the product, as no ‘one size fits all’ skin cream exists, as well as helping the consumer to save costs, were two of the driving factors behind developing the range, the company claimed.

“I wanted to create a way to simplify the market place by allowing the consumer to continue using their current product – but enhancing the benefits of that product to fit their individual needs,” company founder David Pollock said.

The range includes products to tackle a number of skin issues, such as an anti wrinkle product called InstaErase Power Booster, a moisturising product called Hydration Booster and a brightening product called Light & Bright Booster.

“Each booster contains a high level of active ingredients and are delivered using SmartCore technology, which is a delivery system that binds the actives with most products out there,” Pollock told CosmeticsDesign.com USA.

In addition, Pollock said the boosters can be used on their own if the consumer doesn’t feel they want to blend them with their existing products or are looking for a more concentrated effect.

Ingredient compatibility

Industry experts have expressed concern that the ingredients within the boosters, while having the potential to make the formulation more efficient, may not be incompatible with the base product chosen by the consumer.

“There is always the possibility of ingredient incompatibility. The consumer would not know if their chosen product would work well with the boosters. Also long term stability of the mixed product would be an issue,” skin care consultant Mindy Goldstein told CosmeticsDesign.com USA.

“Mixing in these boosters into just any cream could also affect the aesthetics of the cream,” she added.

According to Pollock, stability testing with the power boosters and the top selling skin creams in department stores and mass market products illustrated good compatibility, as well as the power boosters being found safe to use directly on the skin.

While formulating a base product would solve any potential compatibility issues, Pollock said this was not the aim of the company.
