Recycled plastic resin provider MVR acquires NextLife
The Florida-headquartered company started life as a recycler and now produces and markets post consumer recycled plastic resins, driving a closed loop system where waste material returns to the company in order to be recycled and resold.
“Through a proprietary process of collection, cleaning, separation and processing MVR transforms large volumes of post-consumer plastic waste into highly-refined, 100% recycled resins,” company CEO Ron Whaley told CosmeticsDesign.com USA.
NextLife has for some time proposed MVR’s resins to its clients when it is advising sustainable solutions for packaging.
In addition to advising on the choice of sustainable resins, NextLife, which targets a range of industries including cosmetics and personal care, also provides product life cycle assessments, sustainable packaging design and marketing support.
A spokesperson for NextLife previously told this publication that NextLife potential projects in the cosmetics industry could include the use of PCR PET clam shells for secondary packaging or the negotiation of closed loop systems with cosmetic companies or retailers, where waste is collected at the point of sale and returned for recycling.
Help drive new opportunities for resins
According to MVR, the acquisition of NextLife will allow the company to broaden what it can offer its clients and help drive the uptake of its materials.
“We have built a reputation providing high quality sustainable PCR resins to consumers, and the addition of NextLife will broaden the value proposition we can bring to our customers and accelerate the pace at which brand owners understand and are able to implement sustainable solutions, including new opportunities for our line of sustainable resins,” Whaley said.
Solutions that can now be offered to customers include FDA approved post consumer recycled resins, life cycle analysis, marketing and communications support and a network of qualified providers across the full supply chain, Whaley explained.
While full details will be announced as the company is further integrated into MVR, changes to NextLife are expected to be minimal, Whaley said.
For example, NextLife will continue to use the operations they have in place and MVR will continue to be the preferred provider of PCR PP, PS and PE resins as they have been in the past, he explained.
