Personal Care Truth, a web-portal which provides factual data about cosmetics and personal care products, has appointed another industry figure to its panel of experts.

Begoun is the creator of the Paula’s Choice skin care range and the website Cosmetics Cop, and has been reporting on the beauty industry for over 25 years, according to Personal Care Truth.

The co-founder of the website, Lisa Rodgers, told CosmeticsDesign.com USA that Beguon will answer questions from readers that relate to her expertise, as well as providing blog posts on various topics.

“I am very impressed with the effort the Personal Care Truth team has put forth to provide accurate information on the skin care industry, while also working to combat misinformation,” said Begoun.

“Their commitment to the industry mirrors mine, and I am thrilled to serve on their expert panel.”

Panel of experts

Begoun joins a panel of experts that include researchers, chemists and formulators, whose knowledge and industry expertise can help consumers make informed decisions, say the website founders.

Other panel members include formulator and microbiologist Cindy Jones and Dene Godfrey, who has worked for many years in the field of preservatives and is an active member of the Society of Cosmetic Scientists (SCS).

Rogers highlighted the ‘ask the experts’ tool as one of the site’s most interesting and popular features as it “gives consumers a direct link to ask the questions that have been unanswered for them.”

Combating misinformation and misconceptions

The website provides information related to FDA regulations, legislation, specific ingredients information and scientific data in an attempt to combat misinformation and misconceptions.

“We believe it is more powerful to provide information to educate and empower the consumer as opposed to scaring them with information that has not been backed by science,” said Rodgers.

According to Rogers, the website has received an ‘overwhelming response’ from both industry and consumers with over 800,000 hits since its inception approximately two months ago.
