Dow Microbial Control, part of the Dow Chemical Company, has extended its Neolone preservative range to meet increasing needs to control personal care microbial contamination.

The new Neolone PH100 ingredient is said to be a high purity, non-formeldahyde-releasing ingredient that is especially suited to baby care, hair care, and skin care products.

In particular it has been formulated to blend well with ingredients such as avobenzone, emulsifiers, surfactants and zinc pyrithione (ZPT), in specific products such as shampoos, conditioners and skin creams.

Preservative created around a single active

The developers say they have created the preservative around a single active, phenoxyethanol, which makes it effective in the prevention of a range of bacteria, fungi and yeast, while also combining well in a pH range of 4.0 to 8.0.

Jose Mosquera, strategic marketing manager for Dow Microbial Control said that the ingredient “is designed to guard against the growth of microorganisms and maintain performance of leave-one and rinse-off applications.”

Described as an ‘eco-friendly’ ingredient, the manufacturers say it has been designed for ease of use by formulators, while also remaining effective at low dose levels and maintaining stability at high and low temperatures.

Low odor and no color

Furthermore Neolone PH100 has a low odor and will not impart phenol or any undesired color to the final formulation, the manufactures claim.

The new addition to the ingredient range was officially launched and platformed at the in-cosmetics show, held in Paris from April 13 – 15, alongside the other ingredients in the Neolane range.
