Evonik launches anti-cellulite active from Indian sandalwood
Tego Xymeninic is based on xymenininc acid, which is extracted from the seeds of the Indian sandalwood tree (Santalum album).
According to Evonik, topical application of the ingredient can help boost cellular detoxification and alleviate symptoms of skin inflammation. In vivo studies performed by the company suggest that the active can lead to a perceivable improvement in skin texture, which leads it to claim the active can help minimize the appearance of cellulite.
Tego Xymeninic is the latest ingredient to result from the company’s partnership with Indian-headquartered active ingredients company Sabinsa.
Although found in large quantities in the seed, extracting the xymeninic acid in significant yields is not easy, according to Evonik, which said the collaboration with Sabinsa helped significantly in this regard.
The Indian sandalwood tree itself is a threatened species. Consequently all Indian sandalwood trees are owned by the Indian government and exploitation is limited to ensure sustainable management.
This controlled and managed system, a company spokesperson explained, ensures a sustainable supply chain.
New hyaluronic acid derivative
Evonik is showcasing the ingredient at the in-cosmetics show in Paris this week, along with a new addition to its portfolio of hyaluronic acid based ingredients.
HyaCare Filler CL is a hyaluronic acid derivative that the company claims can help reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines.
The market success of the original hyaluronic acid ingredient the company launched, HyaCare, prompted the company to investigate into potential derivatives, explained the company spokesperson.
HyaCare 50 was the first derivative to be launched and is a hyarulonic acd with a very low molecular weight which means it can permeate the skin more efficiently, Evonik claimed.
HyaCare Filler CL is the newest addition to the range and is a crosslinked version of HyaCare.
“Crosslinking of the base polymer introduces additional interesting features into the molecule,” explained the spokesperson. These features include an immediate tightening effect to reduce the appearance of fine lines, as well as skin hydration properties.
