The Extract Awards have acknowledged the achievements of some of the most innovative and eye-catching new products and packaging designs in the industry.

The awards, which are a part of the Extract segment of the New York International Gift Fair, acknowledge achievements in six separate categories covering all finished product categories and a dedicated award for packaging.

The event took place in the Jacob Javits Exhibition Center, in mid-town Manhattan earlier this month, drawing attention to some of the newest ideas in a market that has been hard hit by reduced spend amongst recession-hit consumers.

Best of show award

The categories included best of show, which went to New York-based Joya, for its Shades of Dusk natural solid perfume, together with a bath & body category, beauty accessory, cosmetic & fragrance, natural & organic and a packaging category.

With the exception of best of show, which is one overall prize winner, each category was awarded one overall winner and then two finalist prizes were also given for the runner’s up.

The bath & body category winner was awarded to DayNa Decker Botinika Body Essence Buffer, while the two finalist awards went to European Soaps for its Gardener Soaps from Pre de Provence, together with Seda Frarance Candles for its Japanese Quince Wash.

Travel kit scoops up beauty accessory prize

In the beauty accessory category, the winning prize went to JR Watkins Naturals, for its Life’s a Beach travel kit, which includes green tea and aloe vera based shampoo, body wash and lotion, while finalist prizes went to Sohum Cosmetics for its Iris from Grande vegetable collection and Green Tea Goods for its Refreshing Towelettes.

In the cosmetic & fragrance category, the top prize went to Fruits & Passion for its Decorative Diffuser Set, while finalist prizes were awarded to DayNa Decker for its Ella Fragrance and Echo France for its L’epi de Provence Solid Perfume Sticks.

In the natural & organic category, the winning prize went to Sapothecary, for its set of four handmade soaps, while one of the finalist awards was given to Juice Beauty for its Blemish Clearing Powder.

Finally, in the packaging category, the overall winner was Votivo for its glass tube with embossed seal for the Delian Collection, while finalists were the Napa Soap Company for its Ceramic Shave Soap Gift Set and Kalologie for the packaging of its skin care range.
